Tesla was apparently capable of vivid visualization, or internal imaging, that he could actually test his electrical machines without having to build or even draw them. He allowed them to run in his imagination, check in with them regularly, and determine the wear and tear after so many hours of purely imaginary running. He improved his hypothetical machines by making the appropriate adjustments in his mental imagery. When he was satisfied that an invention was running at optimal performance, he would finally set about building it. His mental simulations proved invariably accurate.
You possess the power of imagination. It's only a matter of developing this power. Many people complain to me that they have "lousy" imaginations. The fact is they haven't learned to use their brain's right side properly.
You perceive "reality" in much the same way you do a picture on a television screen. The TV picture is composed of thousands of tiny "bits," or dots, which combined give you the total image. Sounds, tastes, smells, and tactile feelings are also the result of a combination of thousands of "bits" involving wave frequencies, chemical configurations, and electromagnetic patterns.
You can recall the bits in the same design and order that you received them or you can replay them in new combinations. . . . The power of your imagination and imagery is a function of your ability to retrieve those recorded sensory bits. All imagery involves your recall of sensory bits once recorded in your cortex. The more bits you are able to recall the more vivid your image will be.
**I began to travel; of course, in my mind. Every night, (and sometimes during the day), when alone, I would start on my journeys — see new places, cities and countries; live there, meet people and make friendships and acquaintances and, however unbelievable, it is a fact that they were just as dear to me as those in actual life, and not a bit less intense in their manifestations.
**I observed to my delight that i could visualise with the greatest facility. I needed no models, drawings or experiments. I could picture them all as real in my mind. Thus I have been led unconsciously to evolve what I consider a new method of materialising inventive concepts and ideas, which is radially opposite to the purely experimental and is in my opinion ever so much more expeditious and efficient.
**My method is different. I do not rush into actual work. When I get an idea, I start at once building it up in my imagination. I change theconstruction, make improvements and operate the device in my mind. It is absolutely immaterial to me whether I run my turbine in thought or test it in my shop. I even note if it is out of balance. There is no difference whatever; the results are the same. In this way I am able to rapidly develop and perfect a conception without touching anything.
**flashes of light were, perhaps, my strangest and [most] inexplicable experience. They usually occurred when I found myself in a dangerous or distressing situations or when i was greatly exhilarated. In some instances i have seen all the air around me filled with tongues of living flame. Their intensity,instead of diminishing, increased with time and seemingly attained a maximum when I was about twenty-five years old. I felt a positive sensation that my brain had caught fire. I was a light as though a small sun was located in it..
While in Paris in 1883, a prominent French manufacturer sent me an invitation to a shooting expedition which I accepted. I had been long confined to the factory and the fresh air had a wonderfully invigorating effect on me. On my return to the city that night, I felt a positive sensation that my brain had caught fire. compressions to my tortured head. Finally the flashes diminished in frequency and force but it took more than three weeks before they wholly subsided. When a second invitation was extended to me, my answer was an emphatic NO!
**These luminous phenomena still manifest themselves from time to time, as when a new idea opening up possibilities strikes me, but they are no longer exciting, being of relatively small intensity. When I close my eyes I invariably observe first, a background of very dark and uniform blue, not unlike the sky on a clear but starless night. In a few seconds this field becomes animated with innumerable scintillating flakes of green, arranged in several layers and advancing towards me. Then there appears, to the right, a beautiful pattern of two systems of parallel and closely spaced lines, at right angles to one another, in all sorts of colours with yellow,green, and gold predominating. Immediately thereafter, the lines grow brighter and the whole is thickly sprinkled with dots of twinkling light. This picture moves slowly across the field of vision and in about ten seconds vanishes on the left,leaving behind a ground of rather unpleasant and inert grey until the second phase is reached.
On one occasion I came across a novel entitled ‘Aoafi,’ (the son of Aba), a Serbian translation of a well known Hungarian writer, Josika. This work somehow awakened my dormant powers of will and I began to practice self-control. At first my resolutions(auto-suggestion) faded like snow in April, but in a little while I conquered my weakness and felt a pleasure I never knew before — that of doing as I willed.In the course of time this vigorous mental exercise became second to nature(it looks like the autogenic training). At the outset my wishes had to be subdued but gradually desire and will grew to be identical. After years of such discipline I gained so complete a mastery over myself that I toyed with passions which have meant destruction to some of the strongest men.

Long ago he recognized that all perceptible matter comes from a primary substance, or a tenuity beyond conception, filling all space, the Akasa or luminiferous ether, which is acted upon by the life-giving Prana or creative force, calling into existence, in never ending cycles, all things and phenomena. The primary substance, thrown into infinitesimal whirls of prodigious velocity, becomes gross matter; the force subsiding, the motion ceases and matter disappears, reverting to the primary substance.
Can Man control this grandest, most awe-inspiring of all processes in nature? Can he harness her inexhaustible energies to perform all their functions at his bidding,more still cause them to operate simply by the force of his will?
If he could do this, he would have powers almost unlimited and supernatural. At his command, with but a slight effort on his part, old worlds would disappear and new ones of his planning would spring into being. He could express all the creations of his mind on any scale, in forms concrete and imperishable. He could alter the size of this planet, control its seasons, guide it along any path he might choose through the depths of the Universe. He could cause planets to collide and produce his suns and stars, his heat and light. He could originate and develop life in all its infinite forms.
To create and to annihilate material substance, cause it to aggregate in forms according to his desire, would be the supreme manifestation of the power of Man's mind, his most complete triumph over the physical world, his crowning achievement, which would make him fulfill his ultimate destiny."'
Tesla's powers of memorizing were prodigious. A quick reading of a page gave him a permanent record of it;he could always recall before his eyes a photographic record of it to be read,
Helmholtz has shown that the fundi of the eye are themselves luminous, and he was able to see in total darkness the movements of his arm by the light of his own eyes. This is one of the most remarkable experiments recorded in the history of science, and probably only a few
men could satisfactorily repeat it, for it is very likely that the luminosity of the eyes is associated with uncommon activity of the brain and great imaginative power. It is fluorescence of brain action, as it were.
Another fact"at times, when a sudden idea or image presents itself to the intellect, there is a painful sensation of luminosity produced in the eye observed even in broad daylight."
In some cases of a high development of intellectual state, the luminous light blue shows as a broad fringe or border often being larger than the center itself, and in addition, in special cases, the light blue is filled with brilliant luminous points, sparkling and twinkling like stars on a clear winter night.
When we desire more wisdom and a greater understanding it is evident that we can obtain these things only by entering real mental light, and that light is within us in the spirit. By entering into the consciousness of the illumined world within we naturally receive more light. We ourselves, become illumined to a degree, frequently to a great degree, and we thus gain the power to understand perfectly what we could neither desire nor comprehend before.
Vizualization is a key to the genius of Nikola Tesla - perhaps the greatest inventor/scientist of modern times. Tesla invented the alternating current system of power generation which enabled him to harness Niagara Falls and introduce the age of electricty. His seven hundred inventions include high frequency voltage, the Tesla coil, the oscillator (the heart of radio and television broadcasting), neon and fluorescent lighting, the electric motor, remote control devices, and a planetary power system for inexpensive energy designed to tap the earth's electromagnetic power field.
Tesla's powers of creative visualization were so remarkable that he could construct in his imgination every one of his inventions down to the minutest detail. He would place his invention in an imagined fully equipped laboratory and turn on the device in his mind to see exactly how it would perform when constructed. His machinists said that if he were inventing a solar engine, a new turbine, or some type of electrical equipment, he would produce every single measurement from his imagination, including dimensions down to tenthousandths of an inch. As a child in Yugoslavia, Tesla was trained by his mother in games of visualization. This skill developed into a photographic memory which enabled him to recall every detail of more than five thousand experiments carried out for over half a century.
Visualization is a link between observation and memory, between the conscious and the unconscious. If you have lost something, for example, the simple act of visualizing the lost item will invoke the full power of your subconscious memory to help you locate it. Simply visualize what you wish to find and give yourself the positive suggestion that you will find it.
